Mahfuz Anam is editor and publisher of The Daily Star, the largest circulated English-language newspaper in Bangladesh. Under his editorship (1993 to date), The Daily Star has become the most respected and trusted English-language newspaper in the country and his occasional column "Commentary" enjoys a wide following. He began his journalism career in 1972 as a correspondent for the Bangladesh Observer and later as assistant editor of the Bangladesh Times before embarking on a 14-year career with UNESCO, working in various public affairs and media capacities in Paris, New York and Bangkok. Anam co-founded The Daily Star in 1991 and was named publisher and CEO of Mediaworld Ltd, the owning company of The Daily Star, in 1998. He is the founding president of the Newspapers Owners Association of Bangladesh (NOAB) and current secretary general of the Editors’ Council of Bangladesh.
